Obituary for Paul H. Knabb

Paul H. Knabb
Paul Henry Knabb, 92, of St. Lawrence, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2018, in the Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Gladys V. (Shurr) Knabb. They were married on April 1, 1950 and celebrated sixty-eight years of marriage. Born on December 20, 1925 in Oley, Paul was the only son of the late Henry S. and Sara (Snyder) Knabb. He was a 1943 graduate of Mt. Penn High School, where he met his beloved wife and thrilled his schoolmates with his soccer skills and trombone flair. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II in the Pacific. He was a lifelong member of Masonic Blue Lodge 549, the American Legion and Antietam Lions Club. Paul worked at Reading Foundry and Supply Co. for more than 40 years, retiring as the Vice President. Paul was an avid outdoorsman, whether hunting and fishing, canoeing, gardening, or walking his beloved dog Muggsie, companion of 18 years. More recently he could be found at Schwarzwald UCC , helping with landscaping or the annual Easter Egg candy making. Perhaps his best loved quality was his sense of humor. If you needed some laughs at any celebration, Paul was your master of ceremonies. He will be missed by all who knew him and will be lovingly remembered by his family as usually “sweet and adorable”, but sometimes “old and sassy”.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his three beloved children: Paul H. Knabb, Jr., husband of Therese (Katzenmoyer) Knabb of Exeter, Mark A. Knabb of Evanston, IL, and daughter Bonnie wife of Michael Wager of Bozman, MD; and grandchildren Benjamin and Corey Wager and Oliver and Annie Knabb.

Services will be held at Lutz Funeral Home on Saturday, May 19 at 11 am. A viewing will be held at the funeral home prior to the funeral service from 10 – 11 am. Private burial will be held at Forest Hills Memorial Park on Monday. The family would like to especially thank the kind medical staff of Reading Hospital Building C. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Paul’s memory to Schwarzwald United Church of Christ, 75 Church Lane Road, Reading, PA 19606. Online condolences may be recorded at www.lutzfuneralhome.com
