Our Story

Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. began serving the community in 1884 in what was then known as Esterly, PA. Esterly is now known as St. Lawrence. The founder, John F. Lutz, a cabinet maker by trade, was also an experienced casket maker who made an easy transition into the funeral industry.

Initially, Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. operated at the site of the John F. Lutz Furniture Store in Esterly, where John F. sold his handmade wood furniture. The furniture store continued operation in its original location until the mid sixties. J. Elmer Lutz, Sr., John F.’s son, built the current facility in the borough of Mount Penn in 1931. It was designed exclusively as a funeral home.

The business is still family owned and operated. The funeral home eventually passed to the third generation J. Elmer “Buddy” Lutz, Jr., and then to the current owner and operator, John C. Lutz, who is the fourth generation. John C. Lutz II, the fifth generation has now joined his father to offer thoughtful and considerate services at Lutz Funeral Home, Inc.

Since our founding, the guiding principle of Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. has been the commitment to treating each family who comes to us as our own. With sincerity, pride, and dedication, we are committed to this time-honored tradition.

Our family opened the doors of the funeral home years ago. Our reputation for providing the highest quality of service grew, and today we are privileged to serve hundreds of area families each year.

In recent years, we’ve gathered together a staff of highly-qualified and deeply caring individuals to assist us in continuing the funeral home’s mission of providing excellence in funeral services to families in their time of need.

Whether you have an immediate need for our services or you wish to begin pre-planning a funeral arrangement for you or someone you love, call us. We will be proud to serve you.
