Obituary for George F. Mattes

George F. Mattes
George F. Mattes, 81, of Flying Hills, passed away Monday, November 14, 2016 in his residence. He was the husband of Mindy (Belnome) Mattes. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Frank and Mary (Stutz) Mattes. George was a graduate of
Shillington High School and was a United States Army Veteran, stationed in Germany in the late 1950’s. He was a member of St. Catharine of Siena R.C.C. and as a young man was a member of the Reading Buccaneers Drum and Bugle Corps. He
loved traveling with his wife on their ski trips to Vermont, visiting Europe several times, going on cruises and family vacations. George loved being with his many friends, playing cards and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. George loved cars and talking about them and spent most of his working life in the automotive business. The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice, especially Brooke Harris and Lori Reed for their love and care. In addition to his wife, George is survived by one son, Mark Mattes of Brigantine, NJ and one daughter, Julie A. wife of Kenneth Burkhart of Jacksonwald and two grandchildren, Joshua and Hannah. Visitation with family and friends will be held on Thursday Evening, November 17 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in
the Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Ave. Reading, PA 19606. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 18 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Catharine of Siena R.C.C., 4975 Boyertown Pike, Reading, PA 19606. Visitation will be held from
9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to Mass in church. Interment private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the American Heart Association, 968 Postal Road, Sute #110, Allentown, PA 18109.
